Our Stories
We started the Child Rescue Project because we couldn’t ignore the stories we were hearing about children being exploited. Having had firsthand experience with being exploited, I wanted to share my story and prevent the same or worse from happening to those in my community. I realized how hidden yet pervasive this issue was, and thus we felt a responsibility to step up and do something about it. We believed that by raising awareness, educating others, and creating resources, we could begin to make a difference. It wasn’t just a cause; it became our shared mission to work toward a future where no one would have to live in fear of exploitation. - Katie Wong, Director of Operations and Advocacy
What started this initative?
I want to form a place where we can truly cause an impact to a community that isn’t spoken about enough. You never truly know what everyone around you experiences and sometimes it can be very vulnerable to open up to others but I want to say: “I am here and I want to help you.” Creating a space where we can help each other especially children is essential not only for their future development but for society as a whole so that we as a community are more aware of the issues of child exploitation and sex trafficking that is affecting many people that we aren’t even aware of at time. - Sophia Rubiano, Director of Prevention and Outreach
